Cavern Creatures
One day, I came across a Cavern. I tiptoed in and began to take photographs. It was not until the developing stage that I saw wonderful and strange creatures evolve before my eyes.
All, that is, with the exception of the 'Cavern Queen', who appeared to me eerily, yet beautifully, in a shaft of light that periodically shot through a gap in the jagged rocks. I thought she was like an Eygptian Sphinx, glimmering up high in the roof of the Cavern.
In deciding how to print and frame my photographs, it was important to me to try and preserve the textures of the rockface and slate. I wanted them to have the appearance of a painting.
So I printed them on a fine art paper. A simple black mount, the same depth all around, was used to try to retain the experience of going into a confined, hidden dark space; drawing the viewer in, to meet, and no doubt see, their own creatures.
